Rooted in tradition

The St. James Place setting is truly remarkable. The fifty-two beautiful rolling acres provide the perfect setting for living life well on property that was once the DuPlantier Plantation. The majestic DuPlantier Oak, more than 220 years old, remains the vital, symbolic centerpiece of the community.

St. James Place opened in 1983, fulfilling the vision of the parishioners of St. James Episcopal Church of Baton Rouge. As the first retirement community in Louisiana, quite a buzz was created! No one had ever heard of a retirement community for healthy seniors, let alone the concept of a continuum of care. Throughout the years, our reputation as a first-class community has continued to grow, positioning us to be the leader in senior living in the Gulf South region. After a multi-million dollar expansion and renovation in 2001, St. James Place is more extraordinary than ever before.

Today, St. James Episcopal church is our "sponsor" but there are no legal or financial ties between us. We are a 501 (c) not-for-profit organization, run by a volunteer board of directors of community leaders. We are not managed by or a part of any management company or larger entity, but are independently managed and run.
