Pilates is a muscle strengthening system of exercise developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century. It focuses on the core postural muscles which help keep the body balanced and provide support for the spine. Pilates exercises teach awareness of breath and alignment of the spine, and aim to strengthen the deep torso muscles. It can be adapted to any age or fitness level.
Kathy Koehl
Kathy's foundation of ballet evolved into fitness. She holds certifications in group exercise, personal training, spinning and stability ball. Kathy completed her 200 hour certification in the physical therapy based teachings of Polestar Pilates in 2002. She went on to obtain a second 200 hour training in yoga completing her certification in 2007 with master instructor Tias Little in Santa Fe, New Mexico, after which she became a Registered Yoga Teacher. Kathy is passionate about correct alignment and uses her skill to create strength, balance and flexibility. She believes that a body should have a solid foundation of strength, proper economy of movement, stability and mobility, which all together create a balanced body.
Melody Benton
Melody's interest in movement began with the study of Physical Therapy in 1998 at OLOL College. Not feeling fulfilled as a Physcial Therapist Assistant, she ventured over to the wellness side and completed certifications in personal training (ACSM), pilates mat, standing and advanced pilates, pilates apparatus (Physical Mind Institute) and most recently Thai Yoga Massage. Melody's training specialties include experience with osteoporosis, joint and spinal disk injury/disease, myofascial release technique, postural & gait analysis/education. As a pilates instructor, Melody's goals are to create balance, strength, flexibility and help clients to feel their best.
