Life can be a struggle for a person with cognitive impairments - and for their families and loved ones. That’s why we’re dedicated to doing all we can to minimize those struggles and helping our memory-impaired residents continue to live their lives well - by providing the highly specialized supportive services and care they need in Highland Court. Highland Court consists of two distinct, adjacent parts of our community.
Highland Court Assisted is part of St. James Place Assisted Living. It’s for residents with moderate memory impairment needing to live in a secure neighborhood with ample supervision. Residents enjoy a large studio apartment with a private bathroom (including shower) and a kitchenette. Staff members are on hand 24/7, and are specially trained to work with residents with cognitive difficulties. Highland Court Assisted residents enjoy their own dining room, living room, and a beautiful secure outdoor courtyard. Activities are plentiful, some of them exclusively designed for Highland Court Assisted residents, others include the residents of Assisted Living. This area is staffed by Personal Care Assistants and supervised by the Director of Assisted Living.
Highland Court Nursing is a separate part of St. James Place nursing care specifically designed to offer the best possible care for residents with Alzheimer's and other forms of advanced dementia. Many of the residents here require nursing care as well as help with activities of daily living.
This self-contained area is beautifully appointed and secure. Highland Court Nursing is a secure neighborhood with an inviting courtyard area in which residents may enjoy the outdoors in a safe environment. All 26 rooms are private, spacious, and have private baths. The staff – both nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants – is trained to provide the particular care and support needed by these very special residents. With a deep understanding of Alzheimer’s, appropriate and meaningful activities are planned to allow the residents to be engaged and as active as possible.
St. James Place and Elan Vital Montessori are excited to announce a new intergenerational toddler program beginning in August 2010. Children ages 18 months to 3 years will participate in Montessori based programming in a classroom setting at St. James Place Highland Court. For the children, it's an opportunity to learn and have fun, while interacting with a group of seniors. For the residents of Highland Court, it is another component of the "Meaningful Days" philosophy of adding purpose to each individual's day, in this case experiencing the pleasure of seeing and hearing children playing.
Informational meetings will be held May 20, 2010 and June 17, 2010. For details, call (225) 215-4683 or email lmartinez@stjamesplace.com.
